Imagine a deer, swift and free, running through the forest. Now, picture someone taking it away from the woods and expecting it to swim or think of a fish, gliding effortlessly in the water, only to be told it must climb a tree to prove its worth.
Sounds unfair, right? Yet, isn’t this what we often do to our children? We compare, correct, and push them to follow a set path—forgetting that each child is meant to grow in their own unique way.
Every Child is Unique—Let Them Shine in Their Own Way
As parents, we all dream of giving our children the best future. But in that pursuit, do we focus more on what they lack instead of nurturing the strengths they naturally possess?
🔹 “You need to solve division problems faster like others.”
🔹 “You don’t recite poems as beautifully as your cousins.”
🔹 “Stop wasting time on drawing, singing, or dancing!”
When we highlight their weaknesses, we unknowingly discourage them. But what if we did the opposite? What if we recognized their strengths and helped them grow?
How Does Our School Nurture Strengths?
At WWIS, we empower children by recognizing, celebrating, and developing their strengths. When children love what they do, they naturally push themselves to improve.
Here’s how we make it happen:
✅ Identifying Strengths Instead of Labeling Weaknesses
Godwin, a Grade 7 student, struggled to focus in class. Instead of labeling him as “distracted,” our team recognized his keen interest in handling tools. With the right encouragement, he is now engaged in product design and stays highly motivated.
✅ Building Confidence Through Creativity
When Supreeth of Grade 6 joined WWIS, his parents were concerned about his shyness. Instead of forcing him to be more vocal, our ILP Coordinator nurtured his artistic skills. Today, his illustrations speak volumes, boosting his confidence and self-expression.
✅ Celebrating Individual Growth
Madhin, an exceptionally talented artist, has found his voice through his drawings. With continuous motivation from his ILP Coordinator, his illustrations now communicate more powerfully than words ever could.
✅ Encouraging Independent Learning
Subhiksha, a Grade 7 learner, chose Management as part of her ILP. She read The Culture Code: The Secrets of Highly Successful Groups by Daniel Coyle and even conducted a training session for our facilitators—proving that leadership can begin early.
✅ Personalized Learning for Every Child
Grade 9 Gautham and Grade 7 Shahidya are excelling in Python programming. With support from both the school and their parents, they successfully built a web app using the Django framework. Their learning journey is designed around their strengths, keeping them engaged and inspired.
✅ Supporting Passion Beyond Academics
Vibhu Vishwesh’s parents embraced his love for art and design. Rather than pressuring him to excel in math, they collaborated with our ILP Coordinator to nurture his artistic skills, allowing him to thrive in illustrating cartoon books.
The True Measure of Success
Success isn’t about doing what others do or following in someone else’s footsteps. Instead of comparing our children to their peers, let’s appreciate and nurture their unique talents and skills.
What Can You Do as a Parent?
Starting today, take a moment to observe your child. What excites them? What do they do effortlessly? It could be communication, organization, leadership, or creativity. By focusing on their strengths, you open the door to limitless possibilities.
